About Us

The Carers Centre provides an Information, Advice and Support Service on a number of issues including:

  • Benefits    
  • Holidays
  • Respite
  • Assessments
  • Social Services
  • Support Groups
  • Support and Advocacy        

We offer a specific service for Young Carers aged 8-18, based in York and Selby which offer youth groups, activities and one-to-one support.

We offer a specific service  for Young Adult Carers aged 18-25, with opportunities for meetings and one-to-one support.

Our services are free and confidential.           

Additionally, we: 

  • Arrange and co-ordinate courses for carers. These have included courses on lifting and moving, benefits, rights of carers and complementary therapies.

  • Produce a regular, free newsletter 'Caring Matters' in conjunction with the local branch of Carers UK - 'York Vale Carers'. This newsletter is available to carers, statutory and voluntary organisations.

  • Organise events and socials.

  • Offer training for professionals who work with carers.

  • Work with carers, carer groups, voluntary and statutory organisations to improve services for carers.

  • Work towards developing opportunities for carers to be consulted and involved in the planning of services and training.
